The More Life Less Waste project was initiated in 2022 in the community of Barrinha de Baixo, in Acaraú-CE, in partnership with Visões da Terra, CoopBravo, and the local community.

Based on a comprehensive waste management diagnosis conducted in the region, a solidarity-based selective collection system was implemented, encompassing the installation of equipment, institutional strengthening, training, and the contracting of the local cooperative, CoopBravo. Participation in the project occurred through continuous Environmental Education initiatives—clean-up campaigns, door-to-door collection drives, recycling demonstrations, and training sessions—carried out in partnership with Municipal Schools, City Halls, and CoopBravo.

The project has become established as a municipal public policy and, in 2024, was expanded to a pilot area in Preá. Currently, it is underway in both Barrinha and Preá, in the municipality of Cruz, where it is also recognized as a public policy.

More than 6,000 people directly impacted.

  • 97% adherence in the community.

  • Over 130 tons of recyclables recovered since the start of the project.

  • + 22.3 tons of glass processed with the crusher donated to the project.

  • Income per member of CoopBravo has tripled, and the number of members has grown threefold since the project began.

  • In 2024, it was recognized by the Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change (SEMA) as one of the five best sustainability projects in Ceará.

  • The project has become a regional benchmark, being presented as a case study in courses at Unifor and at the 3rd Sustainability Forum of Serra da Ibiapaba.

  • The municipalities of Acaraú and Cruz have formalized the contract with CoopBravo to carry out selective waste collection in both territories, consolidating the project as a municipal public policy.
